To
organize an air show is no easy thing to do, especially in a valley
surrounded by high mountains. Since over thirty years the “Sion Air
show” is held every four years in the beautiful location of Valais in
southern Switzerland.
Many of the military aircrafts shown are not any more in service or use and stored in museums around the globe, scrapped or luckily still flying by private owners. Not unlike so many aerobatic team of this time just disappeared like the famous “Martini Team”, the “Dutch Grasshoppers” and the team “Volare-Nordica”.
Another highlight was the landing of an Airbus A310 by former SWISSAIR and later on the fly-past in formation with the aerobatic team “Patrouille Suisse”.
Many things have changed since 1986, especially in security, if you compare it with the last years show. (See our previous report) But one thing will always be: The great enthusiasm for aviation by both, the pilots and the thousands of spectators, in such a fantastic alpine panorama.
Eine Air Show in einem Tal zwischen hohen Bergen abzuhalten ist wohl immer eine grosse Herausforderung, sowohl für Piloten als auch die verantwortlichen Organisatoren. Seit gut 30 Jahren findet alle vier Jahre eine der wohl schönsten Air Shows der Welt vor der alpinen Kulisse der Walliser Alpen in Sion statt.
Einige der damals gezeigten Militärflugzeuge sind seit einiger Zeit nicht mehr im aktiven Dienst und können nur noch im Museum oder an Oldtimer-Treffen bewundert werden. Nicht anders erging es auch diversen Kunstflugstaffeln aus dieser Zeit: namentlich der bekannten „Martini-Staffel", den holländischen „Grasshoppers“ in ihren Allouette III Helikoptern oder der „Volare-Nordica“ Staffel.
Ein weiterer Höhepunkt war sicherlich die Landung des Airbus A310 der vergangenen SWISSAIR die später, während Veranstaltung, auch noch im Formationsflug mit der „Patrouille Suisse“ bestaunt werden konnte.
Einiges hat sich seit 1986 verändert, vor allem im Bereich Sicherheit und Absperrungen wenn man es mit der „Breitling Sion-Air Show 2011“ vergleicht. (Siehe unser Bericht) Was geblieben ist, ist die Begeisterung und Faszination für das Fliegen, sowohl bei den Piloten, aber auch bei den tausenden von Zuschauern und das einmalige Bergpanorama rund um die Veran-staltung.
