Intro
Geneva International Airport (IATA: GVA, ICAO: LSGG), also known as Airport “Genève-Cointrin” was build in 1922 and handed over to the Airport Authority for regular traffic. The airport is situated along the Swiss and French borderline and allows access from both sides without leaving your country.

Our editor, Andy Herzog and our correspondent, Francois Badoux had a closer look in August 2011 at Geneva’s Airport.

History
Although the airport rather belonging to the small airports in Europe, he is quiet important. Many of the big companies and world-organisations (UNO, WHO, UNICEF etc.) have their head office in Geneva.

Global coverage through this, it is very important and good to have regular access to the world’s metropolises. As an Airport “hub” he makes a significant contribution to the success of the city of Geneva.

For aircraft spotters Geneva is of course a “delicacy”! Busy air traffic, not just by the airlines, as well as by BIZ-Jets provides a few surprises!

The undisputed “top dog” is here Easy Jet, followed by Swiss International and Baboo Airlines.

Under no circumstances should you miss the time of Ramadan and Orthodox Christmas.
(See spotter map)
During this period lot is happening and very often you get quite rare airplanes in front of your camera.

Geschichte
(WHO, UNO, etc.)
