The 13th September was a memorable day for both, Lufthansa and the town and canton of Zurich, as Dr. Christoph Franz, Chairman of the Executive Board, Deutsche Lufthansa AG mentioned in his welcome speech. Since many decades Lufthansa connecting Zurich with there daily flights from all over Germany and looking back to a successful cooperation and partnership between the two countries regarding civil aviation.

A specially the partnership between Lufthansa and there daughter company Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. are outstanding regarding the statement of Swiss CEO Harry Hohmeister. Emotionally touch was also Dr. iur. Ursula Gut-Winterberger, District president Canton Zurich by the name-giving ceremony and the future prospect, that one of Lufthansa’s A380 will carry the name of Zurich around the globe.

Many hundreds of aviation enthusiast’s attend the landing and later on the take-off by Lufthansa’s A380 around the airport area, this day.

Welcome by fire trucks

The first to pay there tribute to the aircraft was two fire trucks of the airport fire department shooting two huge water fountains over the A380, a celebration well known all over the world.

Visiting the aircraft outside

After a short while the press could inspect the plane from outside. The sheer size of the A380 and his huge Rolls Royce Trent 970 engines, as well as the gigantic main under carriage and fuselage was even to us very impressive!

Visiting the aircraft inside

After a warm welcome by one of the flight-attendants we had the chance to visit the cabin. Beautiful colours and fabrics combined with the latest technology in entertainment systems, as well as plenty of space in the First- and Business class set new standards in modern and luxurious travelling. Outstanding atmosphere are guaranteed!

Speeches and name-giving ceremony

Resting in a silent moment the crowd was listening to the speeches of Dr. Christoph Franz, Mr. Hohmeister and Dr. iur. Gut-Winterberger.

At 11:39 am the official name-giving ceremony took place and after the lifting of the cover on the aircraft you could see clearly the new name of “ZURICH” After handing over the ceremony documents and flowers it was time to move to the lunch buffet and keeping up some small talk.
