Fighter Town

 

Dieses Jahr waren deutlich weniger Jagd-Maschinen in RAF Fairford anzutreffen. War es früher ein Stelldichein aller NATO Jäger, so waren 2012 nur einige F-16, MIG-29 und Tornados anzutreffen. Vorgeflogen wurden unter anderem die F/A-18F der US Navy die mit einer Maschine der Staffel VFA-122 aus NAS Lemoore California am Tattoo teilnahm.

Historic planes

Etwas verloren waren die wenigen historischen Flugzeuge in Fairford. Mit dem Battle of Britain Flight (Avro Lancaster und zwei Spitfire) trauten sich nur wenige in die Lüfte. Die weiteren Teilnehmer waren eine Hawker Hunter und eine BAC Strikemaster die jedoch nur in der Ausstellung bewundert werden konnten.

Zivile Aviatik

Ups – schon der Titel ist Gewöhnungsbedürftig bei einer militärischen Air Show und vor allem beim Air Tattoo. Einige zivile Flieger, die irgendwie zum Thema Lufttransport passten, haben sich nach Fairford verflogen.
Sicherlich zu den interessantesten Gästen gehörten eine Boeing 757 und 767 von DHL in ihrem auffallenden, gelben Anstrich, die bei ihrem Vorbeiflug am grauen Himmel über Süd England einen guten Kontrast darstellten.

Aerobatic Teams

Natürlich durften die Red Arrows an der Air Show der nicht fehlen. Einige andere Teams waren jedoch eine Überraschung. Al Fursan aus Abu Dhabi auf Ihren Aeromacchi boten eine eindrückliche Show. Unverkennbar war die Handschrift der Frecce Tricolori bei denen die Al Fursan ausgebildet wurden. Das Team existiert erst seit zwei Jahren.
Ebenfalls ein Novum war das Koreanische Team „Black Eagles“ auf Ihren T-50B Jet-Trainern. Die Black Eagles machten 2012 eine Europatour und besuchten diverse Air Shows. Die Flugvorführung der Eagles war eine der Besten die wir je gesehen hatten. Dabei zeigte das fernöstliche Team ein hervorragend choreographiertes Programm mit engen Formationen und viel Aktion. Folgerichtig wurden sie für die beste Vorführung 2012 mit dem King Hussein Memorial Sword ausgezeichnet.
Die Royal Jordanien Falcons und die Patrouille Suisse waren weitere Teams die anwesend waren. Leider kurzfristig abreisen mussten die Royal Saudis mit ihren Hawks.

Sicherlich wird das Redaktionsteam von WINGS-AVIATION an einem der nächsten RIAT Air Tattoo wieder vertreten sein, doch wird dies vermutlich erst in ein paar Jahren der Fall sein, sollte dann das Air Tattoo überhaupt noch abgehalten werden.
Dennoch möchte ich allen Lesern einen Besuch in Süd-England beim RAF Air Tattoo in Fairford empfehlen. Das nächste Royal International Air Tattoo öffnet seine Pforten am 20. & 21. Juli 2013.
