Spotting at LHR: "The agony of choice"

Heathrow is without question among the spotters certainly one of the most interesting airports in the world. However, you should prepare yourself well enough, so that you are at the right time at the right place. With over 20 Spotter points the selection is very large and you need some time to get from one place to another. Besides the size of the airport, there is a special factor you have to consider as well: "The daily change of runways."

At exactly 3pm the two runways change the procedure of arrival and departure. To make sure not to miss anything we advise you to stay close to the local spotters and go with them, like a caravan, to the next photo point. There is plenty to photograph because the airliners take-off and land at a 30 second interval.
So we were able to capture in just three days more than fifty different airlines with our cameras. Many colorful and exotic aircraft and airlines serve Heathrow throughout the day. Only the Asian airlines mostly fly in and out at the evening hours. Photographing in the night-light conditions is practically impossible.

There were many "highlights" as the brand new Airbus A380 in the new colors of Malaysia Airlines, or the Polish LOT Boeing 737 in a gold paint finish. A special guest was probably an Airbus A320 of Air Canada at Heathrow. Then came the question, why a small short-and medium-range jet from Canada ends up in England? On demand at a local spotter, we were told that this is a seasonal, daily flight from Halifax, Canada to London Heathrow.

To cope with the transatlantic distance this Airbus A320 is equipped with additional fuel-tanks in the cargo hold. This Airliner enthused even the local spotters!

Speaking of ENTHUSIASM:

As editor in charge for the needs of civil aviation on our website, of course, my enthusiasm was very high!
But even our chief editor, Michael E. Fader, a diehard enthusiast of the U.S. Navy and military aviation, did not want to miss out what happens on Heathrow Airport.
However, Michael’s "enthusiasm" was then limited.
On the third day I was alone at Heathrow Airport, while Michael was on sightseeing and shopping tour in the City of London.  „Çe la vie“(That's life)

During the summer season, Air Canada operates an Airbus A319 on its daily flight from Halifax to London Heathrow. To cope with the transatlantic distance, additional fuel tanks were installed in the cargo holds.
