Im
Schmelztiegel „Ruhrpott“ liegt der drittgrößte Flughafen von
Deutschland; Düsseldorf International Airport.
Mit gut 18 Millionen Einwohnern ist NRW das bevölkerungsreichste
Bundesland und einer der stärksten Industriestandpunkte in Deutschland.
Es versteht sich von selbst, dass Düsseldorf International Airport das
Drehkreuz der sonnenhungrigen Bevölkerung ist, die sich auf ein paar
Tage an den Sandstränden im Mittelmeerraum freut. Aber auch im Business
Bereich und mit internationalen Verbindungen hat sich Düsseldorf einen
Namen gemacht und etabliert.
Unser Korrespondent, Andreas Schmucki, wollte sich diese einmalige
Gelegenheit nicht entgehen lassen und wirft einen Blick auf das
Geschehen am Düsseldorf International Airport.
Der am 19.
April 1927 eröffnete Flughafen Düsseldorf liegt im Norden der Stadt
Düsseldorf im Stadtteil Lohausen. In seiner bewegten Geschichte erfuhr
der Flughafen einige positive wie auch negative Einflüsse. Speziell zu
erwähnen gilt der Großbrand im April 1996 der diverse Bereiche des
Flughafens lahmlegte. Auch aus dieser Brandkatastrophe ließen sich die
Behörden und die verantwortlichen Stellen nicht entmutigen und trieben
die anstehenden Bauvorhaben mit Bedacht weiter. Heute ist Düsseldorf ein
moderner Airport mit optimaler Verkehrsanbindung (Schiene, ÖV und
individuellem Verkehr) der seinesgleichen sucht.
Mit über 20 Mio. Passagieren (Stand: November 2011) ist Düsseldorf wohl
einer der „Keyplayers“ bei den zivilen Airports in Deutschland. Mehr als
80 verschiedene Airlines fliegen gegen 180 Ziele in über 50 Ländern an.
Im Bereich der Passagierzahlen ist Düsseldorf der am stärksten wachsende
Airport in Deutschland. Viele Airlines wie Lufthansa, Air Berlin und
Eurowings haben ein festes Standbein in Düsseldorf das kontinuierlich
ausgebaut wird.
Interkontinentale Verbindungen nach Amerika, Asien und dem Rest der Welt
sind an der Tagesordnung. Mit 87 Meter Höhe verfügt Düsseldorf aber auch
über den höchsten Airport-Tower in Deutschland.
