In the melting pot of the "Ruhrgebiet”, Duesseldorf International Airport is the third largest airport in Germany.
With over 18 million inhabitants, North Rhine-Westphalia belongs to the most populous state and is one of the strongest areas of industry in Germany. It goes, without saying, that Duesseldorf International Airport is a fine hub for the sun-seeking population that is looking forward to a few days on the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean. But also in the business sector and with international connections; Duesseldorf has made his name and established himself very well.
Our correspondent, Andreas Schmucki wanted this unique opportunity not to be missed and takes a look at what happens on the Duesseldorf International Airport.

Opened on the 19th April 1927, Duesseldorf Airport is located north of the city of Duesseldorf in the “Lohausen” district. In its turbulent history, the airport experienced lots of positive and negative influences. Specifically to mention, the large fire in April 1996, that damaging various areas of the airport, the airport team and the catastrophic fire couldn’t keep the authorities and those in charge to carry on with their constructions plans to expand the airport and make it ready for future demands. Today Duesseldorf is a modern airport with excellent transport links (rail, public transport and individual transport) and is unrivaled.
With over 20 million passengers (as stated by November 2011) Duesseldorf is probably one of the "Keyplayers" in civilian airports in Germany. More than 80 different airlines fly to almost 180 destinations in over 50 countries. Regarding to passenger numbers, Duesseldorf is the fastest growing airport in Germany.
Many airlines such as Lufthansa, Air Berlin and Euro Wings have a strong presence in Duesseldorf which is continuously expanded. Intercontinental flights to America, Asia and the rest of the world are on the agenda. With 87 meters in height, Duesseldorf has the highest airport tower in Germany.
