Es ist das zweite
Wochenende im Juli und wieder ist es Zeit für Flying Legends! Das erste Mal seit
Jahren verspricht die Wettervorhersage aussergewöhnlich schönes Wetter. Und so
kahm es dann auch. Nur Sonne und keine einzige Wolke am Himmel weit und breit.
Dieses Jahr hatte Flying Legends schon das 21. Jubiläum. Die allererste Airshow
war noch eine Veranstaltung welche nur an einem Tage im May 1993 stattfand.
Schon ein Jahr später wurde sie zu einem zwei Tage Event was seitdem auch
beibehalten wurde. Diese Airshow war ein komplett neues Konzept. Es gab damals
noch keine Airshows die ausschliesslich Warbirds mit Propellern zeigten. Aus
diesen Anfängen entwickelte sich die wichtigste und beste Warbirds Airshow in
Europa wenn nicht weltweit. |

Womit soll man
anfangen wenn man diese Airshow beschreiben will. Worte sind nicht genügend um
zu beschreiben was in der Luft vor sich geht. Das folgende ist deshalb eine
Zusammenfassung, ohne eine spezielle Reihenfolge einzuhalten. Als erstes sollte
man sich die am Rollweg aufgestellten Maschinen ansehen. Wie immer nehmen viele
Leute diese Gelegenheit war um die Flugzeuge von nahe zu sehen. Diese sind
jedoch weit genug von den Zuschauern entfernt dass man Fotos machen kann ohne
das einem andere Besucher ins Bild laufen. |

Was wären die
Flying Legends ohne die Spitfire und Hispano Buchon (Me109) welche sich über den
Platz jagen. Dieses Jahr waren nicht weniger als 7 Spitfire und 2 Buchons in der
Luft und tobten sich aus. Sehr beeindruckend auch die Hawker Formation aus einer
Hurricane, Demon und zwei Nimrods. Die Hurricane Mk.II kam aus Frankreich wo sie
stationiert ist, nachdem sie vorher viele Jahre in Neuseeland flog. Sie wurde
tatsächlich erst dieses Jahr nach Europa zurückgebracht. Der Anstrich
repräsentiert eine Hurricane während der Schlacht um Frankreich. |

Gloster Gladiator |

Ein anderes Bild welches man das letzte Mal in den Dreissigerjahren gesehen hat, war eine Formation von zwei Gloster Gladiator in Formation. Die neu restaurierte Gladiator der Fighter Collection in den Farben der 72. Staffel und die Shuttleworth Gladiator der 73. Staffel gaben einen Einblick in die farbenfrohen Jahre als die RAF als der beste Fliegerclub der Welt galt. |

Die Marinefliegerei wurde durch die F4U-4 der Flying Bulls und die Sea Fury von Spitfire Warbirds repräsentiert. Es ist immer wieder beeindruckend, wie die Sea Fury mit ihren speziellen Raucherzeugern Figuren in den Himmel zeichnet. Die Royal Navy war mit ihrer Sea Fury und der Swordfish vertreten. Leider war das Heckrad der Swordfish abgebrochen, sodass sie nicht fliegen konnte. Ein weiteres Paar waren ein Avenger und die Wildcat welche nach einer Überholung wieder flugtüchtig ist. |

Die Jak
Jagdflugzeuge sind regelmässige Besucher der Airshow. Es flogen eine Jak-3,
Jak-9 und Jak-11 jeweils im Tiefflug über den Platz. Dies ist sehr beeindruckend
und zeigt sie in ihrer typischen Rolle da an der Ostfront die meisten Luftkämpfe
in niedriger Höhe stattfanden. Die Frage stellt sich jedes Mal, wie tief sie
diesmal fliegen werden. |

Morane and Balboo |

Das letzte
Flugzeug und endlich in originalem Anstrich der Schweizer Flugwaffe war die
Morane D3801. Während vieler Jahre trug sie einen Anstrich der französischen
Luftwaffe obwohl sie nie in Frankreich flog. Es handelt sich dabei um eine
Schweizer Weiterentwicklung der bekannten Morane Saulnier MS406 mit stärkerem
Saurer Motor anderem Propeller und einem Tunnelkühler. Die Flügel unterscheiden
ich auch von der MS406 indem Wülste über den MG Öffnungen fehlen. An dieser Stelle möchte ich Esther Blaine und ihrem Team für ihre Unterstützung danken. |
