For several years, the EBACE is probably the most important trade fair for the European business aviation. Manufacturer of all continents showed in three large halls of the Palexpo in Geneva their products and services. On the tarmac of Geneva-Cointrin Airport, the visitor can admire dozens of the latest generations of business jets in a static display. In addition to various awards to visionary companies such as Lufthansa Technique for their customer service was certainly the biggest "highlight" the official unveiling of the Pilatus PC-24 business jets, although only as a so-called cabin "mock-up".

However, there were still more "specials" that want to be mentioned. Andy Herzog gives us a glimpse of this year's edition.

Impressions of the exhibition

For the first time I decided to visit the EBACE one day before the official opening, which has subsequently proved to be wise.

Although still working heavily in the halls and not all stands were prepared yet for the onslaught of visitors, but there was an interesting insight into how much work actually have to be done! The idea to visit the show one day earlier was the right decision. So I was able to see the static display in peace and quiet.

All exhibits on the apron were more or less free of fences and allowed us photographers to take pictures of aircraft without disturbing side effects. Even the weather was on our side that day, what was not so obvious in recent weeks/months.

Static Display

In beautiful spring weather to visit the static display on the tarmac of the airport was of course mandatory.
As in past years, the largest and most important manufacturer showed its latest Business Jet versions to the interested audience and potential buyers.

Successful was also a "small talk" with the CEO of the company AERIS Aviation (UK) who commercialize the smallest business jet in the world, the ECLIPSE 550.

MD-83 (SX-IFA), a special guest

However, my particular attention was given to a rather elderly guest at EBACE, the VIP MD-83 (SX-IFA), of the Greek company GainJet Aviation.
According to research in our databases it was, at least for me, an amazing resume regarding the life of this "old-timer”. Produced in 1991 was the now 22-year-old MD-83 sold to the Kuwaiti Air Force (# KAF 26), where she later been passed on as 9K-AGC into the fleet of the Kuwaiti government, and flew there till May 2000. Al Ghanim Corp., Kuwait was from 2000 - 2003 the new owner of the MD-83 (3B-IFA) which the company used as a VIP company jet with a brand new cabin layout.

This was probably the most interesting aspect for me, since I initially in the 1980’s used to work as a maître-cabin for Al Ghanim Corp. However, we then flew on even older aircraft such as the B737-269 (VR-BOX), ex Kuwait Airways and a B727-100 (VR-BAT), ex Ansett Australia Airlines.

From 2003 to 2006, the aircraft was flying as OE-IFA for the company Jet Alliance. Then sold in April of 2006 to the Greek company GainJet Aviation, where she still remains in service to the present days, as SX-IFA.

... and the regular Traffic

But also the normal airliner traffic in GVA came on my visit to EBACE not too short. So I had plenty of time to catch up with the regular traffic at Geneva airport, often in very near distance to the taxi- and runway.

Once more a visit to our highest expectations. So we are also looking forward to the upcoming 2014 edition, of course, hoping to see the first prototype of the new Pilatus PC-24 Business-Jet!
