Die Zwartkop Airshow fand dieses Jahr bei fantastischem Wetter statt. Zwei Tage ohne eine einzige Wolke am Himmel. Dazu war das Programm sehr attraktiv wie wir noch sehen werden.
Wie gewöhnlich war der Freitag der Tag der Jugend, an dem Schüler aus der Region die Gelegenheit hatten sich über die Berufsmöglichkeiten in der Aviatikbranche zu informieren. Zusätzlich hatten sie die Möglichkeit die einzelnen Flugzeuge in ihrem Element zu sehen, da am Freitag die meisten Kontrollflüge stattfinden. Die Kontrollflüge dienen dazu das Flugprogramm der Piloten für die Airshow zu genehmigen.
Es begann sehr früh am Samstagmorgen. Die ersten motorisierten Paraglider tauchten schon um 7:30 auf, kurz nach Sonnenaufgang, aber mit dem Mond immer noch gut am Himmel sichtbar. Die Kapelle der Luftwaffe wurde dieses Mal stilgerecht in einer C-130 Hercules eingeflogen.
Der erste offizielle Teil der Airshow waren die Fallschirmspringer der Special Forces welche dem Oberkommandierenden Lt Gen Msimang eine Schriftrolle überbrachten. Anschließend hielt er eine kurze Rede zur Eröffnung. Danach paradierten die Einsatzfahrzeuge entlang der Piste und die Airshow konnte beginnen.

Statische Ausstellung
Das spezielle dieses Jahr war das die Tanker und Elint Boeing 707 mitten im Zuschauerraum abgestellt war. Dadurch war sie einfach zu fotografieren. Ausserdem waren noch der Gripen und alle Helikopter welche zurzeit verwendet werden ausgestellt. Als Museumsbeitrag schliesslich noch die F-86 Sabre.

Sud-Est Alouette II & III
Die Alouette Helikopter des Museums zeigten verschiedene Flugfiguren, darunter auch einen Kreis in welchem sich die Maschinen gegenüberstehen und dabei seitwärts im Kreis fliegen.

The Cows
Über das Kunstflugteam Cows (Kühe) welches die Pitts Special fliegt, wurden viele Witze gemacht. Das Team wurde 1985 gegründet und besteht aus den Piloten Scully und Ellis Lewin, Arnie Meneghelli und Sean Thackwray. Bis jetzt gab das Team über 1700 Vorstellungen. Zurzeit unterstützt das Team die Wohltätigkeitsorganisation COWS welche sich um Krebspatienten kümmert.

Mango Boeing 737
Mango ist eine Billigfluggesellschaft in Südafrika welche die Airshow unterstützt. Dieses Jahr zeigte sie eine ihrer Boeing 737 welche vom omnipräsenten Scully Lewin geflogen wurde.

de Havilland Dh-82 Tiger Moth
Im
bekannten gelb für Trainingsflugzeuge war die Tiger Moth während des letzten
Krieges eine oft gesehene Maschine, als Flugschüler auf ihr ihre ersten
Flugerfahrungen machten.
Das Exemplar an der Airshow in den Farben der südafrikanischen Luftwaffe
wurde von Lt Col Jeff Earle geflogen, dem sie auch gehört.

Der De Havilland Vampire Trainer des Museums zeigt klar die Unterschiede zu modernen Jets in Bezug auf die Leistung auf. Unglaublich wenn man bedenkt dass diese Maschine auch schon über 60 Jahre alt ist. Je länger desto mehr sind die Piloten dieser historischen Flugzeuge jünger als die Maschinen welche sie fliegen.

Museum Aircraft
Da die Airshow die einzige Finanzierungsquelle des Museums ist, will man natürlich möglichst viele der Maschinen im Flug zeigen. Diesmal waren es vier Harvards, die Cessna 185 sowie Bosbock und Kudu.

Hawk
Der Hawk wurde 2005 in den Dienst der Luftwaffe gestellt. Gebaut wurde er von Denel in Südafrika, mit lokal hergestellten Teilen. Verwendet wird er als Fortgeschrittenentrainer in der Pilotenausbildung sowie als Erdkamp- und Waffentrainer. Eines der Flugzeuge an der Airshow hatte eine Sonderbemalung mit einem schwarzen Rumpfrücken und Seitenleitwerk und der Zeichnung eines Tölpels sowie der Aufschrift Gannet auf der Rumpfseite.
