Gemäss einer alten Tradition in Thailand werden am Tag des Kindes, der immer am zweiten Samstag im Januar stattfindet, die Türen zur thailändischen Luftwaffe und zur thailändischen Armee geöffnet. Dieser Bericht handelt nur von den Aktiviäten der thailändischen Luftwaffe am Tag des Kindes auf der RTAF Base in Don Muang.

Der Berichterstatter hatte in diesem Jahr die Gelegenheit, dem geplanten Training der fliegenden Teilnehmer und der Ankunft der von anderen Basen eingeflogenen Flugzeuge beizuwohnen. Während dem ersten Training, eines Luftkampfes zwischen zwei F-16 und einer F-5, wurde es schnell klar, dass die benötigte Sicht fuer eine solche Übung wegen starkem verschmutztem Dunst über dem Flugplatz nicht vorhanden war. Das Training der drei Flugzeuge wurde danach wegen fehlender Sicht der Piloten abgebrochen und alle weiteren Trainings wurden ebenfalls abgesagt. Aus diesem Grund konzentrierte sich das Interesse der anwesenden Pressevertreter auf die von andern Basen einfliegenden Maschinen. Die Organisatoren waren aber trotz allem zuversichtlich, dass am Samstag eine verbesserte Wetterlage das volle Flugprogramm zulassen wuerde.

Der Samstag begann damit, dass sich schon um 6 Uhr in der Früh Schlangen von Leuten an den Türen der Luftwaffenbasis angesammelt hatten, um dann um 7 Uhr möglichst schnell auf die Basis zu kommen. Dieser, für Kinder und deren Eltern geplante Anlass, stösst allerding auch bei den thailändischen Aviatik Fans und bei vielen von Ländern wie Grossbritanien, Holland, Taiwan und  Singapur herbei gereisten Spottern und Fotografen auf grosses Interesse. Der Grund für dieses Interesse ist die Tatsache, dass der Tag des Kindes die einzige öffentliche Luftwaffen-Veranstaltung in Thailand ist. Die statische Ausstellung beinhaltete wie in den vergangenen Jahren die gleichen Flugzeuge, die schon in früheren Berichten erwähnt und gezeigt wurden. Eine Ausnahme bildete der Neuzugang des leichten Erdkampfjägers KAI T-50TH Golden Eagle, der zum ersten Mal der Öffentlichkeit gezeigt wurde und erst in 4 Exemplaren verfügbar ist.

Das Flugprogramm wird seit Jahren in drei Blöcken zu zirka einer halben Stunde durchgefuehrt.  Der Grund ist darin zu finden, dass die dazwischen liegenden Pausen von der Zivil-Aviatik für Landungen und Start der planmässigen Linienflüge genutzt werden können. Die Dunstglocke über dem Flugplatz war an diesem Tag etwas weniger dicht, sodass das Programm planmässig abgewickelt werden konnte. Die Eröffnung des Flugprogrammes wurde von einer aus Korat einfliegenden F-16 und einer F-5 mit einem speziell bemalten Seitenleitwerk zum 40-jährigen Jubilaeum des Typs F-5 bei der RTAF gemacht, die in geringer Höhe einen schnellen Vorbeiflug zeigten. Auf diesen Programmpunkt folgte der Vorbeiflug von 3 AU-23 Peacemakers (Pilatus Porter Variante), die mit Rauch die Farben der thailändischen Fahne in den Himmel zauberten. Danach zeigten die zwei F-16 vom Wing 1 in Korat und die speziell bemalte F-5 einen Luftkampf, gefolgt von Übungs-Angriffen auf das Flugfeld mit vom Boden aus gesteuerten Explosionen. Der nächste Programmpunkt war ein Eurocopter EC 725, der Soldaten auf dem Flugfeld absetzte.

Wie in jedem Jahr war die 15 Minuten dauernde Demonstration des vom Wing 7 in Surat Thani eingeflogenen JAS-39 Gripen der Hööhepunkt der Vorführungen. Leider wurde der erstmals anwesende T-50 TH Golden Eagle nicht im Flug gezeigt. Den Abschluss der Flugvorführungen machten vier im Verband fliegende Pilatus PC-9 vom RTAF Trainingszenter in Kampaheng Saen.
