Development

Entwicklung

 

The de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk is a tandem, two-seat, single-engined primary trainer aircraft designed and developed by Canadian aircraft manufacturer de Havilland Canada.  It performed its maiden flight on 22. May 1946 and was introduced to operational service that same year. During the late 1940s and 1950s, the Chipmunk was procured in large numbers by military air services where it was often utilised as their standard primary trainer aircraft.

 

Die de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk ist ein zweisitziges, einmotoriges Tandem-Primärschul-flugzeug, das vom kanadischen Flugzeughersteller de Havilland Canada entworfen und entwickelt wurde. Sie absolvierte ihren Jungfernflug am 22. Mai 1946 und wurde noch im selben Jahr in den Dienst gestellt. In den späten 1940er und 1950er Jahren wurde die Chipmunk in grosser Zahl von militärischen Flugdiensten beschafft, wo sie oft als primäres Standardschulflugzeug eingesetzt wurde.

Einsatzgeschichte

 

The plane was designated as training aircraft No. 9 (BF-9 บฝ.๙).

 

Das Flugzeug wurde als Trainingsflugzeug No. 9 (BF-9 บฝ.๙) bezeichnet.

 

   

1950 wurde die Miles Magister als Trainings-flugzeug der RTAF ersetzt. Die Nachfolge trat die De Havilland Canada Chipmunk an. Die Maschine wurde 1950 eingeführt und blieb bis mitte der sechziger Jahre hin im Dienst der RTAF. 12 Maschinen wurden in Thailand von der RTAF modifiziert und als Chantra bezeichnet. Die Maschinen wurden ausschliesslich von der Flight Trainings School in Kamphaeng Saen geflogen.
