History

The first Thai helicopter where not new ones, they where 2nd hand or even 3rd hand planes. All four where brought from the UK, but one got lost before reaching Thai soil. 1950 is the year the rotary wing where introduced in the RTAF. The Westland WS-51 was good helicopter but in the hot environment of the SEA the performance was poor.

In 1953 the Westland’s where joined by one H-5A or YR-5A from Sikorsky. This helicopter was only 1 year in the service of the RTAF due to unsatisfactory performance and during that time the RTAF had no skilled personals to maintain this helicopter.
