 The Stinson L-5 Sentinel was a World War II era liaison aircraft used by all branches of the U.S. military and by the British Royal Air Force. It was produced by the Stinson Aircraft Company. The origins of the L-5, affectionately known as the "Flying Jeep", can be traced to the prewar civilian Stinson HW-75. The HW-75 featured two seats up front side-by-side, and a third "jumpseat" in the rear on which a small passenger could sit sideways. The design was easy to fly.

The Voyager was then completely re-engineered by Stinson into a much stronger and more powerful tandem-seat airplane that met rigorous Army engineering handbook standards for the design of military aircraft. The prototype, designated as the Model V-76 by Vultee / Stinson was accepted by the military after accelerated service trials and entered into service in December 1942 as the L-5. The L-5 carried a pilot and observer in a tandem-seating configuration, which was preferred by the military for observation work.		   Die Stinson L-5 Sentinel war ein Verbindungsflugzeug aus der Zeit des Zweiten Weltkriegs, das von allen Zweigen des US-Militärs und von der britischen Royal Air Force eingesetzt wurde. Es wurde von der Stinson Aircraft Company hergestellt. Die Ursprünge der L-5, liebevoll "Flying Jeep" genannt, gehen auf deas Vorkriegsmodell Stinson HW-75 zurück. Der HW-75 hatte zwei nebeneinander angeordnete Sitze und einen dritten "Jumpseat" im Heck, auf dem ein kleiner Passagier seitlich sitzen konnte. Das Design war einfach zu fliegen.
Die Voyager wurde dann von Stinson komplett in ein viel stärkeres und leistungsstärkeres Flugzeug mit Tandemsitz umgerüstet, das die strengen Standards des Ingenieurhandbuches für die Konstruktion von Militärflugzeugen erfüllte. Der Prototyp, der von Vultee / Stinson als Modell V-76 bezeichnet wurde, wurde vom Militär nach beschleunigten Tests akzeptiert und im Dezember 1942 als L-5 in Dienst gestellt. In der L-5 sassen Piloten und Beobachter in einer Tandemsitz-Konfiguration, die vom Militär für Beobachtungs-aufgaben bevorzugt wurde.

Die RTA übernahm von der RTAF einige wenige Stinson L-5 oder L-5B Sentinel. Die Maschinen wurden als บต.๕ BTh-5 (Aufklärungsflugzeuge Nr. 5) bezeichnet.
