Entwicklung
The aircraft was essentially a monoplane version of the Boeing F4B-4, differing in having the lower wing omitted and in having all-metal construction as well as altered ailerons. The XF5B-1 had a split-axle undercarriage and a tail wheel It was ordered by the US Navy, but by the time flight testing was complete in 1932, other aircraft were ordered instead.
Die Maschine war im wesentlichen ein Eindecker-Version der Boeing F4B-4 bei der der untere Flügel weggelassen wurde und als Ganzmetall-Konstruktion mit veränderten Querruder ausgeführt. Die XF5B-1 hatte eine getrennte Achse beim Fahrwerk und ein Spornrad. Die Maschine wurde von der US Navy bestellt und 1932 erprobt, danach erfolgten keine Bestellung.
