The Rockwell XFV-12 was a prototype supersonic US Navy fighter which was first built in 1977.The XFV-12 used a thrust augmented wing concept in which exhaust would be directed through spaces in a wing opened up like venetian blinds to increase available lift. On paper, it looked superior to the subsonic Hawker Siddeley Harrier attack fighter. However, it proved unable to produce enough thrust for vertical flight, even with an installed engine with more thrust than its empty weight, and the project was abandoned.
Of the two prototypes built, only one was completed, while the second prototype was cancelled.

Die Rockwell XFV-12 war der Prototyp eines Überschall-Jagdflugzeug der US Navy, das 1977 gebaut wurde. Die XFV-12 verwendete einen Schubflügel bei dem der Schub durch Hohlräume mittel Jalousien ausgeblasen wurde. Auf dem Papier sah die Konstruktion besser aus als die Hawker Siddeley Harrier. Allerdings erwies sich der Schub als nicht genügend für den vertikalen Flug, der Motor produzierte nicht mehr Schub als sein Eigengewicht daher wurde das Projekt aufgegeben.

Von den zwei Prototypen, wurde nur einer fertig gestellt, während der zweite Prototyp nicht fertig gestellt wurde.
