Marine photographic squadrons were first formed in 1942 and went through numerous name changes while they were active. VMDs/VMPs flew photographic modified versions of the SBD Dauntless, PB4Y-1 Liberator, PB4Y-2 Privateer and F7F Tigercat. The main mission of these squadrons was to conduct long range, very high-altitude photographic reconnaissance. |
