Entwicklung

The FBA.17 was a training flying boat produced in France in the 1920s. In 1931, the U.S. Coast Guard purchased an example of the FBA17Ht4 for evaluation, and being pleased with the design, arranged for the type to be built under licence by the Viking Flying Boat Company in New Haven, Connecticut.

Die FBA.17 war ein in den 1920er Jahren in Frankreich hergestelltes Trainingsflugboot. Im Jahr 1931 kaufte die U.S. Coast Guard ein Exemplar der FBA17Ht4 zur Bewertung und war mit dem Design zufrieden und veranlasste, dass der Typ unter Lizenz von der Viking Flying Boat Company in New Haven, Connecticut, gebaut wurde.

Operational history

Einsatzgeschichte
  Six aircraft were eventually produced and served with the Coast Guard under the designation OO-1 until the outbreak of World War II. The Last Viking was retired in April 1941. These seaplanes flew out of air stations at Biloxi, Cape May, Charleston, Miami, and St. Petersburg.   Sechs Flugzeuge wurden schliesslich erworben und bei der Küstenwache unter der Bezeichnung OO-1 bis zum Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkriegs eingesetzt. Die letzte Viking wurde im April 1941 ausgemustert. Diese Wasserflugzeuge flogen von den Stationen in Biloxi, Cape May, Charleston, Miami und St. Petersburg.
