In November 1967 the U.S. Coast Guard procured the first of the HH-3F Pelican Helicopters. This twin turbine, medium range, amphibious, all weather helicopter extended the Coast Guard offshore search and rescue capabilities. The Coast Guard purchased 40 HH-3F’s. The last one was delivered in 1973.

During 1989 the U.S. Coast Guard acquired five HH-3E helicopters from the US Air Force to supplement the HH-3F fleet and converted them to the Coast Guard HH-3F configuration.

Im November 1967 beschaffte die U.S. Coast Guard den ersten HH-3F Pelican Helicopter. Dieser amphibische Allwetter-Helikopter mit zwei Turbinen mittlerer Reichweite erweiterte die Such- und Ret-tungsfähigkeiten der Küstenwache. Die Küsten-wache kaufte 40 HH-3F. Der letzte wurde 1973 ausgeliefert.

Im Jahr 1989 erwarb die U.S. Coast Guard fünf HH-3E Hubschrauber von der US Air Force, um die HH-3F-Flotte zu ergänzen, und baute sie auf die HH-3F Konfiguration der Küstenwache um.
