The Vought O2U- Corsair was a 1920s biplane scout and observation aircraft. Made by Vought Corporation, the O2U- was ordered by the U.S. Navy in 1927. Powered by a 400 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp engine, it incorporated a steel-tube fuselage structure and a wood wing structure with fabric covering.

Die Vought O2U- Corsair war ein Doppeldecker Aufklärungs- und Beobachtungsflugzeug der 20er Jahre. Hergestellt von der Vought Corporation, wurde die O2U- 1927 von der U.S. Navy bestellt. Angetrieben von einem 400 PS Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp Motor hatte es eine Stahlrohr-rumpfstruktur mit hölzernen Flügeln die Stoffbespannt waren.

Operational history

Einsatzgeschichte
  The U. S. Coast Guard obtained six Vought O2U-2 Corsairs from the U.S. Navy, three in 1934 and three more in 1935. They were modified at Eastern Air Service, Miami. The overhaul included removal of tailhooks, installation of dual controls for the aft cockpit, installation of Coast Guard radios, and engine overhauls. They were numbered V117 through V122 and stayed in service through 1937 with one surviving through January 1940. Several of these Corsairs were stationed with the Coast Guard Air Detachments that patrolled the U.S.-Mexican border in an effort to suppress the smuggling of illegal alcoholic beverages.   Die U. S. Coast Guard erhielt sechs Vought O2U-2 Corsairs von der U.S. Navy, drei im Jahr 1934 und drei weitere im Jahr 1935. Sie wurden beim Eastern Air Service, Miami, modifiziert. Die Über-holung umfasste das Entfernen der Fanghaken, den Einbau von Doppelsteuerungen für das zweite Cockpit, den Einbau von Funkgeräten der Coast Guard und Motorüberholungen.
