History 

1701 MAS formed at RNAS Lee-on-Solent on 1. February 1945 as an amphibian bomber reconnaissnce squadron with 6 Sea Otters. Embarking in HMS Begum in April 1945, it sailed for the Far East to be attached to Mobile Naval Air Bases (MONAB) for air sea rescue dutles. B Flight joined MONAB No.4 at RNAS Ponam in May, whilst A Flight was disembarked in June to MONAB No.6 at RNAS Maryborough. After VJ-Day the squadron reverted to second line duties, being based at RNAS Kai Tak from November 1945, where a De Havilland Tiger Moth was added, and also an Airspeed Oxford flight. 1701 NAS disbanded at RNAS Kai Tak on 27 August 1946.
