History 

1820 NAS forned at NAS Brunswick, Maine, USA on 1. April 1944 as a dive bomber squadron equipped wlth 9 Helldiver Is. After work-up these embarked in HMS Arbiter in July for passage to the UK, but the type was found unsatisfactory for its intended pupose, the squadron losing several aircraft and crews through accidents, including three aircraft which failed to pull out of vertical dives. 1820 NAS was therefore disbanded at RNAS Burscough on 16. December 1944.
