History 

1848 NAS persomel assembled at RNAS Donibristle in May 1944, and after passage to the USA officially forned at NAS Brunswick, Maine on 1. July as a single seater fighter squadron. Equipped with 12 Corsair Is and IIs, these were increased to 18 on taking passage home in HMS Ranee in October 1945. However, soon after arrival 1848 NAS disbanded at RNAS Machrihanish on 21. November 1944, its aircraft and piIots being shared equally betwren 1843 NAS, 1845 NAS and 1846 NAS.
