History

1936 - 1940
No.714 (Catapult) Flight formed on 15. July 1936 by renumbering No.406 (Catapult) Flight with the 4th Cruiser Squadron in the East Indies Station. Initial equipment was Fairey IIIFs embarked in HMS Emerald, HMS Enterprise and HMS Norfolk, these soon being phased out in favour of Ospreys and Walruses.
During manoeuvres at Singapore in January 1937, the flight operated from its shore base at RAF Seletar. Seafoxes arrived in June 1937 for use in HMS Emerald, but by the begiming of 1939 the unit had achiveid squadron status and was by then operating from HMS Liverpool and HMS Manchester, later suplemented by HMS Gloucester, On the outbreak of war the squadron had 6 Walruses and was using both RNAS Seletar and RNAS Trincomalee as shore bases. It was absorbed into 700 NAS on 21. January 1940.

1944 - 1945
On 1. August 1944, 714 NAS reformed at RNAS Fearn as a Torpedo Bomber Reconnaissance Training squadron. With 717 NAS it received aircrew from their specialist training and assembled them into crews. Equiped with Barracudas, it moved to RNAS Rattray on 31. October 1944, disbanding there on 29. October 1945 when its task was taken over by 717 NAS.
