895 NAS forned at RNAS Stretton on 15. November 1942 as a single seater fighter squadron equipped with 6 Sea Hurricane Ibs, moving the following month to Charlton Horethorne. It was to have embarked in an escort carrier, but in March 1943 it re-equiped with 9 Seafire IIcS , remaining shore-based at St Merryn until May, then transferred to RAF Machrihanish, before disbanding at RNAS Turnhouse on 30. June 1943, forming the basis for the fighter flights of 816 NAS and 842 NAS.

On 23. April 1956 895 NAS reformed at RNAS Brawdy with 12 Sea Hawk FGA.4s and FGA.6s, enbarking in HMS Bulwark in August. For the Suez campaign, it exchanged aircraft on 12. October 1956 with 897 NAS Squadron, from which it acquired 12 Sea Hawk FB.3s, these retaining their former codes. 895 NAS disenbarked to Lee-on-Solent towards the end of the year, disbanding there on 19 Dcember 1956.
