The de Havilland DH.82 Tiger
Moth is a 1930s British biplane designed by Geoffrey de Havilland and
built by the de Havilland Aircraft Company. The starting point for the
DH.82 Tiger Moth was the D.H.60 Moth. The DH.60T Moth was re-engined
with the Gipsy III. The DH.60T was further modified with swept back
mainplanes and the cabane struts were moved forward to improve egress
from the front cockpit in case of emergency. The changes were great
enough that the aircraft was re-designated, becoming the DH.82 Tiger
Moth.
The Tiger Moth quickly became a commercial success, and various models
were exported to more than 25 air forces of various nations. In addition
to the military demand, aircraft were also produced for the civil market.
Die de Havilland DH.82 Tiger
Moth ist ein britischer Doppeldecker aus den 1930er Jahren, der von Geoffrey
de Havilland entworfen und von der de Havilland Aircraft Company gebaut
wurde. Ausgangspunkt für die DH.82 Tiger Moth war die D.H.60 Moth. Die
DH.60T Moth wurde mit dem Gipsy III Motor ausgerüstet. Die DH.60T wurde mit
nach hinten gepfeilten Flügeln weiter modifiziert und die Streben wurden
nach vorne verlegt, um im Notfall den Ausstieg aus dem vorderen Cockpit zu
verbessern. Die Änderungen waren gross genug, dass das Flugzeug umbenannt
wurde und in die DH.82 Tiger Moth wurde.
Die Tiger Moth wurde schnell ein kommerzieller Erfolg und verschiedene
Modelle wurden an mehr als 25 Luftwaffen verschiedener Nationen exportiert.
Neben dem militärischen Bedarf wurden auch Flugzeuge für den zivilen Markt
produziert.
