Entwicklung

The Vickers VC10 is a mid-sized, narrow-body long-range British jet airliner designed and built by Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd.  The airliner was designed to operate on long-distance routes from the shorter runways of the era and commanded excellent hot and high performance for operations from African airports. The performance of the VC10 was such that it had achieved the fastest crossing of the Atlantic by a subsonic jet airliner of 5 hours and 1 minute.
 

Although only a relatively small number of VC10s were built, they provided long service with BOAC and other airlines from the 1960s to 1981. They were also used from 1965 as strategic air transports for the Royal Air Force, and ex-passenger models and others were used as aerial refuelling aircraft.

Die Vickers VC10 ist ein mittelgrosses britisches Langstreckenflugzeug mit schmalem Körper, das von Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd. Entworfen und gebaut wurde. Das Verkehrsflugzeug wurde für den Einsatz auf Langstreckenstrecken von den kürzeren Landebahnen der damaligen Zeit entwickelt und verfügte über eine hervorragende "hot and high" Leistungen für den Betrieb von afrikanischen Flughäfen aus. Die Leistung der VC10 war so gut, dass sie mit einem Unterschall-Verkehrsflugzeug in 5 Stunden und 1 Minute die schnellste Überquerung des Atlantiks erreicht hatte.
Obwohl nur eine relativ kleine Anzahl von VC10 gebaut wurde, leisteten sie von den 1960er bis 1981 gute Dienste bei der BOAC und anderen Fluggesellschaften. Ab 1965 wurden sie auch als strategische Lufttransporte für die Royal Air Force eingesetzt, und Ex-Passagiermodelle und andere als Luftbetankungsflugzeug verwendet.
