Airliners are in generally more conservative and decorated with simple paintings and represent a conservative appearance. But there are some exceptions, such as the Thai "low cost" airline Nok Air.

With their colorful and unique paint-liveries they are recognized on any Southeast Asian airport. On his countless trips to Asia, Guido E. Buehlmann could attract these colorful birds by his camera.

Originally founded in 2004 by Sky Asia Ltd. in January 2006 the company was named in Nok Airlines Co. Ltd. With investments of public and private investors, Nok Air operates as a low-cost carrier, mainly to destinations within Thailand. Largest shareholder is the state owned flag-carrier, Thai Airways International (49% shares).

With about 130 employees and a fleet of 17 aircrafts, mostly 737-400 / 737-800 and ATR-72-200, Nok Air operates to destinations within Thailand, such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Buriram, Udon, Phuket, Sakon, Khon Kaen, etc. The Don Mueang airport in Bangkok is the operational base of the company.

Nok in Thai means "bird" and embodies the joy, friendship and freedom to travel. The brightly colored birds also reflect the warmth, cordiality and the proverbial hospitality of the Thai people and society. All aircraft wearing a different color scheme, but always with the characteristic bird nose under the cockpit.

Unique "Birds of Paradise", hopefully will remain with us for a long time to come!
