Entwicklung
The Cessna T-37 Tweet is a
small, economical twin-engine jet trainer type. In the spring of 1952,
the USAF issued a request for proposals for a "Trainer Experimental (TX)"
program, specifying a lightweight, two-seat basic trainer for
introducing USAF cadets to jet aircraft. Cessna responded to the TX
request with a twin-jet design with side-by-side seating.
The T-37 had a low, straight wing, with the engines buried in the wing
roots, a clamshell-type canopy hinged to open vertically to the rear, a
control layout similar to that of contemporary operational USAF aircraft
and tricycle landing gear with a wide track of 4.3 m. It first flew on
12 October 1954.
Die Cessna T-37 Tweet ist ein
kleiner, sparsamer zweistrahliger Jet-Trainer. Im Frühjahr 1952
veröffentlichte die USAF eine Aufforderung zur Ein-reichung von Vorschlägen
für ein "Trainer Experimental (TX)"-Programm, das einen leichten,
zweisitzigen Basistrainer für die Einführung von USAF-Kadetten auf
Jetflugzeuge spezifizierte. Cessna reagierte auf die TX-Anfrage mit einem
zweistrahligen Design mit nebeneinander liegenden Sitzplätzen.
Die T-37 hatte einen niedrigen, geraden Flügel, bei dem die Triebwerke in
den Flügelwurzeln versenkt waren, eine muschelförmige Kabinenhaube, die
vertikal nach hinten geöffnet war, ein Steuerungs-layout ähnlich dem von
modernen einsatzfähigen USAF-Flugzeugen und ein Dreiradfahrwerk mit einer
Spurbreite von 4,3 m. Sie flog zum ersten Mal am 12. Oktober 1954.
