The
Salzburg W. A. Mozart Airport is located close to the city
of Salzburg and is the second largest airport in Austria. The airport
was on 16 August 1926 put into operation, and named after Salzburg-born
composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In addition to its world-famous
classical music composer, Salzburg is also home to the "Flying Bulls" of
the company Red Bull.
Our correspondent,
Andreas Schmucki, had a closer look at "W. A. Mozart "Salzburg
Airport during summer 2012 and winter 2013. Just recently returned from
Salzburg, Andreas Schmucki will provide us with an "Update" in the near
future and some impressions of the winter season at the Salzburg
Airport. |

|
Salzburg Airport is the
source and destination traffic in and around Salzburg, including the
adjacent Bavarian districts (Euregio Salzburg - Berchtesgaden -
Bavaria), the adjacent upper Austria and Tyrol lowlands. Scheduled
traffic especially to the large international airports in Frankfurt,
Vienna, Zurich and Dusseldorf are provided and daily served. As a target
of international charter flights, mainly from the UK, Russia and
Scandinavia, it is an important destination; also regarding the
income/turnover of the Salzburg Airport Authorities during the summer
and winter periods. |

Home
of the "Flying Bulls" of Red Bull
In August 2003, the Hangar 7 was opened east of the runway with a
solemn air show. It is a museum of vintage aircraft that are maintained
in the hangar 8 opposite the runway. The operator is The Flying Bulls.
In Hangar 7, a restaurant is headed by Eckart Witzigmann, one of the
world's leading chefs. |
