The Luftwaffe

After the grounding of the Swiss and Lufthansa Ju-52 the one at La Ferté is now the only airworthy example in Europe. It took to the air together with the Pilatus P2 masquerading as a Arado AR-96, While the Fieseler Storch Fi-156 amazed everyone with its short take off and slow flying demonstrations.

Securite Civile

It was the first time that the Securite Civile was displaying their Bombardier Dash 8-Q400MR. In previous years they had sent their Canadair and Grumman Trackers to La Ferté, which could drop noticeably less water. Where they dropped their load in one pass, the Dash-8 could do two passes to empty its tanks.

Hollywood

It is always impressing to see how the mass of T-6 change from their staggered formation into the line astern attacking formation swooping down to the airfield. As the commentator Mr. Chabert rightly says, this is Hollywood rather than trying to imitate the real thing. Part of it is of course that the good guy in the form of a solitary Curtiss P-40 in the end shoots down the Japanese Zero.

Aeronavale

The Marine took part with two formations. One of two Rafales and the Grumman Hawkeye, while the other was made up of a Fouga CM-175 Zephyr, a Morane Saulnier 760 Paris and a Breguet Atlantic ATL2.
Each formation did a flypast before splitting up. The Hawkeye and Breguet Atlantique displayed alone, while the two Rafales and the Fouga and Morane did fly in pairs.

Others

There were a few solitary displays like the helicopter aerobatics of the Red Bull Bölkow BO 105, the Bede BD-5J Minijet or the crazy flying of the Piper PA-1. You may also count the appearance of the two Spitfires a Mk Vb and a PR XIX into this category.

Vietnam (and C-130 Hercules)

The highlight of this part was the formation of the Armée de l’Air C-130 Hercules and the T-28 Trojans and Skyraider, a formation that hasn’t been seen before. It is very unusual that the military permit their aircraft flying in formation with civilians. The C-130 further flew in formation with the North American OV-10 B Bronco, which was also a first. The T-28 Trojan and Skyraider then  proceeded to attack to the tune of ground explosions, the Skyraider at one point flying that low that the fire from the explosions reflected on the airframe.

Aeroclub de France

This was a very unique formation, made up of four Fouga Magisters, an EDGE 540 flown by Nicolas Ivanoff, a Pitts S2B flown by Bertrand Boillot, an Extra 300 LP piloted by Catherine Maunoury, a Cap222 flown by Eric Vazeille and an MX Aircraft MXS with Aude Lemordant at the controls.
Also this year the organisers of the event "Le temps des Hélices" came up with new ideas in the form of unique formations that were not seen before. It must be difficult to always find new attractions to present to the audiences.

It was therefore especially disappointing that the weather was not matching the program in quality. Let’s hope that we can next year celebrate the 50th "Le temps des Hélices" without interference from any pandemic and in beautiful weather.
