The Curtiss 99 was an experimental fighter aircraft with a mixed propulsion system. On 7. April 1944 three aircraft were ordered as XF15C-1 using serials and designations of an earlier but cancelled design. The serials were 01213/01215. The first flight took place on 27. February 1945 but the jet engine, a licence built de Havilland H-1B Goblin, was not yet installed. The first flight with the jet engine took place in April 1945. During the tests the tail configuration was modified as a result of a crash on 8 May 1945. The second aircraft flew on 9. July 1945 and testing continued until October 1946. The third aircraft was also flown.

However, by October 1946, the U.S. Navy had lost interest in the mixed-power concept and cancelled further development.

Die Curtiss 99 war ein experimentelles Kampf-flugzeug mit einem gemischten Antriebssystem. Am 7. April 1944 wurden drei Flugzeuge als XF15C-1 unter Verwendung von Serien und Bezeichnungen einer früheren, aber abgebrochenen Konstruktion bestellt. Die Seriennummern waren 01213/01215. Der Erstflug fand am 27. Februar 1945 statt, aber das Düsentriebwerk, eine de Havilland H-1B Goblin, war noch nicht installiert. Der erste Flug mit dem Düsentriebwerk fand im April 1945 statt. Bei den Tests wurde die Heckkonfiguration infolge eines Unfalls am 8. Mai 1945 modifiziert. Das zweite Flugzeug flog am 9. Juli 1945 und der Test dauerte bis Oktober 1946. Der dritte Flugzeug wurde auch geflogen.
Im Oktober 1946 hatte die US Navy jedoch das Interesse am gemischten Antriebssystem-Konzept verloren und die weitere Entwicklung eingestellt.
