The de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk is a tandem, two-seat, single-engined primary trainer aircraft designed and developed by Canadian aircraft manufacturer de Havilland Canada.  It performed its maiden flight on 22. May 1946 and was introduced to operational service that same year. During the late 1940s and 1950s, the Chipmunk was procured in large numbers by military air services where it was often utilised as their standard primary trainer aircraft.

Die de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk ist ein zweisitziges, einmotoriges Tandem-Primärschul-flugzeug, das vom kanadischen Flugzeughersteller de Havilland Canada entworfen und entwickelt wurde. Sie absolvierte ihren Jungfernflug am 22. Mai 1946 und wurde noch im selben Jahr in den Dienst gestellt. In den späten 1940er und 1950er Jahren wurde die Chipmunk in grosser Zahl von militärischen Flugdiensten beschafft, wo sie oft als primäres Standardschulflugzeug eingesetzt wurde.

Operational history

Twelve ex RAF Chipmunks entered service with the FAA to provide air experience for cadets of the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth based with the Britannia Flight at Plymouth.

Zwölf ehemalige RAF-Chipmunks wurden bei der FAA in Dienst gestellt, um Kadetten des Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, die mit dem Britannia-Flug in Plymouth stationiert sind, Flugerfahrung zu vermitteln.
