Entwicklung

The Fokker S-11 Instructor is a single-engine two-seater propeller aircraft designed and manufactured by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker.

One of the first activities undertaken by Fokker after World War II was the design of a new military aircraft for elementary flying training, the S-11 Instructor. An aircraft trader already placed orders for 100 of these aircraft in 1946, before construction had even begun. The first prototype flew at Schiphol on 18 December 1947. During testing in early 1948 it was found that some aerodynamic changes had to be made to improve the handling of the aircraft.

A total of 375 aircraft were built by Fokker, and a further 178 were manufactured under licence by Macchi in Italy.

Dezember 1947 in Schiphol.

Operational history

Einsatzgeschichte

The Marine Luchtvaartdienst used the S-11 for years at the Kooy airfield in den Helder for the training of Midshipmen. This happened with 22 aircraft that were alternately borrowed/used from the Air Force in the period between 1959 and 1969.
Later, in 1970, 9 S-11s were taken over from the Air Force.
The S-11s were assigned to the VSQ-9 squadron on the Kooy, on 28. August 1973 the Marine Luchtvaartdienst S-11s were withdrawn from service.
