The Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar was an American military transport aircraft developed from the World War II-era Fairchild C-82 Packet, designed to carry cargo, personnel, litter patients, and mechanized equipment, and to drop cargo and troops by parachute.

The C-119 was initially a redesign of the earlier C-82 Packet. The cockpit was moved forward to fit flush with the nose rather than its previous location over the cargo compartment. This resulted in more usable cargo space and larger loads than the C-82 could accommodate. The C-119 also featured more powerful engines, and a wider and stronger airframe. The first C-119 made its initial flight in November 1947, and by the time production ceased in 1955, more than 1,100 C-119s had been built. Its cargo-hauling ability and unusual twin-boom design earned it the nickname "Flying Boxcar".

  

Die Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar war ein amerikanisches Militärtransportflugzeug, das aus der Fairchild C-82 Packet aus der Zeit des Zweiten Weltkriegs entwickelt wurde und zum Transport von Fracht, Personal, Patienten und mechanisierter Ausrüstung sowie zum Absetzen von Fracht und Truppen per Fallschirm entwickelt wurde.
Die C-119 war ursprünglich eine Neugestaltung des früheren C-82 Packet. Das Cockpit wurde nach vorne verschoben, um bündig mit der Nase zu passen, anstatt an seiner vorherigen Position über dem Frachtraum. Dies führte zu mehr nutzbarem Laderaum und grösseren Lasten, als der C-82 aufnehmen konnte. Die C-119 verfügte auch über leistungsstärkere Motoren und eine breitere und stärkere Flugzeugzelle. Die erste C-119 absolvierte ihren Erstflug im November 1947, und als die Produktion 1955 eingestellt wurde, waren mehr als 1.100 C-119 gebaut worden. Seine Transport-fähigkeit und sein ungewöhnliches Design mit zwei Auslegern brachten ihm den Spitznamen "Flying Boxcar" ein.
