The Republic RC-3 Seabee is an all-metal amphibious sports aircraft designed by Percival Spencer and manufactured by the Republic Aircraft Corporation. In order to meet the anticipated postwar demand for civilian light aircraft, Republic endeavored to build the Seabee as inexpensively as possible, while still retaining reasonable performance and range. On November 22, 1945, the prototype RC-3 (NX87451) came off the assembly line at Republic's factory in Farmingdale, New York and on December 1 made its first flight in Farmingdale with Spencer at the controls.
Die Republic RC-3 Seabee ist ein von Percival Spencer entworfenes und von der Republic Aircraft Corporation hergestelltes Ganzmetall-Amphibien-Sportflugzeug. Um die erwartete Nachkriegs-nachfrage nach zivilen Kleinflugzeugen zu erfüllen, bemühte sich Republic, den Seabee so kostengünstig wie möglich zu bauen, während er dennoch eine angemessene Leistung und Reichweite beibehielt. Am 22. November 1945 lief der Prototyp RC-3 (NX87451) vom republikanischen Werk in Farmingdale, New York, vom Band und machte am 1. Dezember seinen ersten Flug in Farmingdale mit Spencer an der Steuerung.
